  • No fake call out fees; will give you an up front pricing guide.

I’m Dean, founder & director of Instaplumb Pty Ltd. For nearly 20 years I’ve been in the plumbing industry & seen my share of dodgy blocked drain repairs that were done by plumbers who just didn’t care. Their focus was to make a quick buck and move onto the next job, sadly this is how our industry gets a bad name.

I founded my plumbing company to change this.

I have specialist blocked drain cleaning plumbers in Sydney who are part of my team, we do not have contractors and each one is trained to give you a choice of repair options with a focus on providing a long term solution. We might give you the more expensive option, but it will be the right repair choice to avoid further blockages to save you money in the long run.

Every time I send a plumber to inspect your blocked drain & then get it cleaned, I know they have extensive drain cleaning knowledge and an understanding of how plumbing drainage systems work. My staff will handle the complexity that comes from a mixture of mains pipes, council managed plumbing or even strata multi property sites.

My staff are given all the latest equipment to ensure your drainage is unblocked effectively. We use different methods to clear a blocked drain whether it has tree roots, kids toys or other debris inside the line. Everything we do is cost effective at affordable rates with drainage equipment of the highest quality and latest technology standards.

Plumber that clears blocked drains in Sydney

  • CCTV digital sewer pipe camera inspections
  • Hydro jet high pressure water jet blasting
  • Chemical treatment of sewer piping
  • Pipe relining repairs
  • Sewer pipe replacements

Every one of our plumbers has a vehicle that carries specialist equipment that can clear blocked drains. Yes, the first step might be using a hand plunger but most of the time we will use our high pressure hydro water jet that blasts high pressure water through the pipes to cut through any blockage.

The high pressure water is pushed into the pipes at pressure over 5000 PSI which will quickly remove things like tree roots, grease, oil build up or even debris that is stuck. We can use our equipment in pipes ranging in size from 32mm to 225mm and push it into your system to reach more than 65 metres away from the entry point to get to every corner of your plumbing.

Our equipment works with both cold and hot water as required. Getting a hot water high pressure jet blast can be very effective for cafes, restaurants or even homes that have grease, oil or food scraps blocking their drain.

Hydro jetting costs between $300 and $800 inc gst in most cases depending how much time is needed to clear the lines or how many access points need to be reached to clear the blockage. Even with such high pressure being pushed through the pipes it won’t damage them in most cases unless your plumbing is very fragile or already broken. Our plumber can inspect the pipes using our digital camera inspection equipment before blasting high pressure water in the lines.

Drain cleaning services in Sydney

  • Residential or commercial drain cleaning
  • Same day drain cleaning service by a plumber
  • Inspection of all drains using CCTV pipe camera
  • Repairs or replacement of broken drains

A plumber is an essential professional who provides drain cleaning services to ensure that your home or business’s pipes and sewage system are functioning correctly. Plumbers in Sydney are experienced in providing a wide range of services, including drain cleaning, which is a crucial aspect of maintaining a healthy and functional plumbing system.

Drain cleaning is the process of removing any blockages or clogs from your pipes to restore the proper flow of water and waste through your plumbing system. Blockages in drains can be caused by a variety of reasons, including buildup of grease, hair, soap scum, or even foreign objects that have been accidentally flushed down the drain. This can lead to slow draining sinks, toilets, and shower stalls, which can be inconvenient and unsanitary.

To provide drain cleaning services, a plumber in Sydney will use specialised tools and techniques to safely and effectively remove any blockages from your pipes. They may use a snake, also known as an auger, to physically break up the blockage and remove it from the pipes. In more severe cases, they may use high-pressure water jetting to clear the pipes and remove the clog.

It is essential to hire a professional plumber for drain cleaning services in Sydney to ensure that the job is done correctly and safely. Plumbers have the necessary experience, knowledge, and equipment to tackle any drain cleaning problem, no matter how big or small. They will also be able to advise you on how to prevent blockages from happening in the future, so you can avoid costly repairs and downtime.

  • Inspection of all sewer lines using CCTV pipe camera
  • Repairs or replacement of damaged sewer plumbing

Plumbers in Sydney play a crucial role in maintaining the functioning of a sewer system in homes and businesses. Blocked sewer drains can cause major problems and lead to unpleasant odours, backups, and even health hazards if not dealt with promptly. Fortunately, plumbers in Sydney offer a range of services to clear blocked sewer drains and keep the sewage system running smoothly.

One of the most common causes of blocked sewer drains is the growth of tree roots. Plumbers in Sydney offer sewer tree root removal services to safely and effectively remove any tree roots that have infiltrated your pipes and are causing blockages. This service is crucial to prevent any long-term damage to your pipes and to keep the sewage system functioning correctly because if left for too long the roots can crack the pipes open and cause them to collapse.

We can also do CCTV sewer inspections using our specialised cameras to inspect the inside of your pipes and detect any blockages or damage. CCTV sewer inspections allow a plumber to accurately diagnose the problem and determine the best course of action to take to clear any blockage.

In some cases, blocked sewer drains can be caused by broken clay pipes. In such cases, plumbers in Sydney offer clay sewer pipe repair or replacement services. If the pipes are beyond repair, they will replace the clay sewer pipes with more durable PVC pipes to ensure that the sewage system functions correctly for years to come. In some situations you may be able to get them relined rather than replace.d

Sewer cleaning is another important service that plumbers in Sydney offer. This involves using our Hydro Jet high pressure water blaster to remove any build up of grease, hair, soap scum, or other materials that can cause blockages in the sewer piping.

In addition to sewer cleaning, plumbers in Sydney also offer sewer and stormwater drainage services. This involves cleaning and maintaining the pipes and drainage systems in your home or business to ensure that they are functioning correctly and to prevent any blockages from occurring.

CCTV camera pipe drain inspections in Sydney

  • CCTV sink, drain or stormwater inspections
  • CCTV camera sewer pipe inspections
  • Hydro jet high pressure water jet blasting
  • Pipe inspections for homes, units or shops

The best way to understand what might be causing a blockage inside a drain is to see deep inside the plumbing system. Every one of our licensed plumbers in Sydney carries CCTV drain and pipe inspection equipment that can be used to look deep inside all types of plumbing systems around a home, block of units, public car park or even a cafe.

The camera displays a live feed on a screen so that you (and our plumbers) can see what is inside that might be causing a blockage. This means we can make a decision quickly about what will be required to clear it.

In a lot of cases we can use our hydro jet high pressure water jet blasting and push this into the same pipe so that we can see it being cleared and ensure the job is done correctly. This method works for sewer lines, stormwater drains, blocked toilets or even a kitchen sink.

Getting a CCTV drain inspection in Sydney is the best way to make sure you are not getting tricked into doing repairs on your plumbing that are not required. You can get the plumber to show you if you have a blockage, collapsed pipe or some other issue that has to be resolved.

Clearing blocked stormwater drains is an important aspect of maintaining the function of any sewage system in Sydney. Stormwater drains are designed to carry rainwater and other surface runoff away from homes and businesses, preventing water damage or flooding. When these drains become blocked, it can lead to serious problems, making it crucial to take action promptly.

Here are ten possible reasons why it is important to clear blocked stormwater drains in Sydney:

  1. To prevent water damage to homes and businesses: Blocked stormwater drains can cause water to overflow and damage the structure of a building.
  2. To prevent flooding: If left unaddressed, blocked stormwater drains can cause significant flooding, causing damage to property and creating health and safety hazards.
  3. To maintain the integrity of the sewage system: Clearing blocked stormwater drains helps to ensure that the sewage system is functioning correctly and prevent any long-term damage to the pipes.
  4. To reduce the risk of disease transmission: Blocked stormwater drains can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects, increasing the risk of transmission.
  5. To improve air quality: Blocked stormwater drains can release unpleasant odors and contribute to air pollution, reducing air quality in the surrounding area.
  6. To prevent soil erosion: Blocked stormwater drains can cause water to overflow and erode the surrounding soil, leading to land degradation and potential land loss.
  7. To protect wildlife: Blocked stormwater drains can disrupt the natural flow of water, affecting the habitat of wildlife and putting them at risk.
  8. To maintain the appearance of the area: Blocked stormwater drains can cause water to overflow and discolor the surrounding area, reducing its aesthetic appeal.
  9. To reduce the risk of landslides: Blocked stormwater drains can cause water to accumulate, increasing the risk of landslides and other natural disasters.
  10. To reduce the risk of water-borne diseases: Blocked stormwater drains can cause stagnant water to accumulate, increasing the risk of water-borne diseases.

Why do your drains get blocked

We see the same types of things that block a drain in sydney time and time again. Here are the top reasons why your drains get blocked & why you might need a plumber to get it cleared.

1. Tree roots

Tree roots growing inside a drain is the number one cause of blocked drains in Sydney. Lots of plumbing pipes are made of clay & very old, roots can get into small cracks over time they grow & fill the pipe to cause a blockage.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - tree root

2. Baby wipes

Baby wipes might say they are safe to flush down the toilet but our plumbers have to clear wipes from blocked drains in Sydney all the time. They can easily get caught in a drain and cause a blockage very quickly with other debris building up against them too.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - baby wipes

3. Sanitary products

Any type of sanity product should be put in the bin and not flushed down the drain. A tampon can expand in the pipe system to cause a blockage and prevent water from flowing as it should. Our plumbers find sanity products blocking drains all the time.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - tampon

4. Body hair

Every time you have a shower body hair will fall to the floor and go into the drain. Over time this can cause a blockage as it combines with soap and other debris and gets tangled. Long hair can especially create balls or clumps that block drains very easily.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - body hair

5. Cooking oil & food

You might think that oil from cooking will just slide down your drains, wrong. When the oil is warm it might drain very quickly, but as it cools it will go hard and together with food scraps can block a drain very easily & then need high pressure jet washing.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - oil and food

6. Kids toys & other objects

Kids love playing with water and they will throw things in the toilet and flush them. These small objects can go into your plumbing system and eventually create a blocked drain as water can’t get past the toy.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - kids toys

7. Soap scum

Over time as you use the kitchen, bathroom and laundry sink with different soap products the scum can build up on the walls of your plumbing. This makes it easier for other items to get caught and then cause a blockage in the system.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - soap scum

8. Dead animals

Sadly animals can get into your floor waste drains or some people even flush dead ones down the toilet. These can very easily block a pipe at a join or bend that can eventually lead to a blocked drain situation.

Common causes of drain blockage in Sydney - dead animals

9. Broken piping connections

Connections between gutters, downpipes, stormwater drains or sewers can break which leads to flooding in the vicinity of those pipes and cause a blockage further up your drainage system.

Broken pipework that needs a plumber to repair it

10. Pipes not installed correctly

If plumbing hasn’t been installed to the correct building code of Australia standards then the chances of it failing are pretty high. In general use it might be ok but any high level of water flow it will block easily.

plumbing that wasn't installed correctly that needs a plumber to repair it

11. Cracked underground pipes

Any cracked underground pipe can begin to collapse and the openings will be smaller than normal which can catch debris. Over time this will reduce water flow rates and eventually block your system.

Broken pipe underground pipework that needs a plumber to repair it

For the drainage system at your property to function correctly all the individual elements have to work well together & be set up to handle the requirements of your site. When drains are subjected to big torrents of water it is easy for things like leaves, debris, small toys or other things to get pushed into your system. Or what is more common is food waste, rubbish or other items are put in a sink or down the toilet that get stuck in the piping system.

This can eventually lead to blockages in your downpipes or even your sewage lines. If your home didn’t have pipes installed correctly with poorly installed plumbing then you may have sizes that are too small, connections that don’t work well together or even a lack of fall where gravity can’t get rid of the water quickly when needed.

So even if there isn’t a specific item blocking the pipe, if the pipework hasn’t been laid on the correct slope or angled to allow the water to drain away correctly you can still get flooding issues during heavy downpours and it can eventually cause a build-up of debris and particles which in turn will cause a blockage.

Some of the weirdest things that have ever been found in a blocked drain by plumbers have included;

  1. Wedding ring
  2. Mobile phone
  3. A live animal (like a snake or a mouse)
  4. A collection of money, including coins and paper currency
  5. A human tooth
  6. Full set of dentures
  7. Toy cars
  8. A false limb
  9. Jewellery
  10. Human hair wig
  11. Car keys
  12. A wedding bouquet
  13. A rubber duck
  14. A hamster cage
  15. A false eye
  16. A bag of drugs
  17. Knife
  18. A large amount of tangled fishing line

While some of these items were removed with a plunger, others may require specialised tools or a more complicated extraction process if they are further in the plumbing system & not the sink ‘s-bend’. Regardless of what has caused the blockage, it is important to seek the services of a professional plumber to ensure that the blockage is cleared efficiently and safely.

Our plumbers have great reviews

After having another plumber clear out my sewer line, and being told I needed to get my entire sewer line sleeved (at great expense), my toilet was still backing up. I decided to look at Google reviews instead and make sure I booked a good plumber to find out what was wrong, and contacted Instaplumb after reading their reviews.

Dean from Instaplumb found the real reason for my toilet backing up was in the stem, quickly and easily cleared this out, and said I didn't need the sleeve for the entire length, but maybe just partially (which would cost significantly less than the other plumber suggested!)

The plumber who came out was so easy to deal with, professional and friendly and fixed it today for me. I took off all the other plumber magnets and I only have the Instaplumb magnet on my fridge now!
After receiving an inflated quote from another plumber, I opted to pay their call out fee and get another quote from Instaplumb.

Very glad I did. Their quote was half the price and they did the job quickly and efficiently today for me.

Dean did the job and was very pleasant and professional. I will be using Instaplumb as my default plumber from here on.
Amazing plumbers! Had massive block in my pipes. Called another company took forever to respond back to me, they then responded with a ridiculous quote and we're so rude!!

Called Instaplumb they responded back straight away with a reasonable price and done an amazing service!!

Also Dean was super respectful had wonderful customer service!! Highly recommend these guys!
I used their website to submit an enquiry for a blocked drain, (we suspected it was caused by a dodgy builder on a recent bathroom renovation). Within half an hour I received a call from Dean, who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Dean was able to come out the same day. Upon arriving he set up and was able to immediately clear the blockage. He then used a camera to check all the pipes, in which he found building materials causing the blockage. Dean was able to give us photo evidence and clear out the blockage. He then made sure to check again, and gave the all clear.

Throughout the whole process, we found Instaplumb to be professional, knowledgeable and pricing was very reasonable & they fixed it today.
These guys are amazing, always on time, always complete the job 100% and very diligent. Prices are cheap and services are reliable. Instaplumb does a lot of my plumbing, and many of my family and friends use them as well.

Dean is a gentleman, and knows exactly what hes is talking about when it comes to plumbing. These guys are awesome and will continue to use them.

Dean is definitely not wet behind the ears. :) keep up the good work gentlemen.

cleaning Sydney

Once our licensed plumber has located the cause of the blocked drain on your property we can work out the best solution to get it cleaned. Blocked drain cleaning in Sydney can be done in different ways depending what the actual blockage is.

Maybe it is something simple like a soft toy that can be pulled out, or food debris build up or in worse cases the pipe drain might be full of tree roots.

Our plumber will work out the best method to start cleaning the drain using a plunger, our high pressure jet blast equipment or chemical cleaning if required.

Blocked toilet
plumber Sydney

Your worst nightmare can be getting a blocked toilet train where sewage sits in the bowel and doesn’t drain away like normal. Yes, our plumbers in Sydney can help you fix a blocked toilet, they will probably even wear a face mask to avoid the bad smells.

Getting a blocked toilet in Sydney is very common because everyone puts so many things down the drain that clogs up the pipes. This can even include a huge No.2 with loads of toilet paper that just gets stuck somewhere. Although most of the time it is baby wipes, napies, tampons or even toys that are flushed down the toilet that have to be cleared.

Blocked kitchen drain
plumber Sydney

All those master chef food lovers can be a blocked kitchen drain plumber’s worst nightmare. All those food scraps, left over oil and other debris from cooking is shoved down the toilet sink and eventually it can block the sewer lines.

What people don’t realise is things can get caught at joins, junctions or other locations where things put in the kitchen sink just don’t flow normally. You will hear a gurgle sound at first, then the sink will drain slowly then eventually it will just be blocked. You can try boiling water, bi-carb soda & vinegar but sometimes that isn’t strong enough to clear the blockage in the sink or pipes.

Blocked stormwater
drains Sydney

The stormwater drains have to be able to capture excess water, especially during heavy rains. They take all the water from hard surface areas like a driveway, downpipes to funnel large volumes of water into the sewage system. If they get full of debris they cannot do this efficiently.

Some properties might have more than one stormwater drain where the system has been installed in a shared driveway, underground car park or even a warehouse. In other situations the stormwater system is designed to manage water flowing down a steep gradient to protect property. Our plumbers can clear the stormwater drain and even recommend improvements to increase their capacity.

Whether you should unblock or repair a drain depends on the situation. For a stormwater pit you might be able to see under the protective grille and can clear the debris which might solve your problem. Or maybe there is a bit of food stuck in the kitchen sink waste pipe that is cleared with boiling water.

Although if the blockage is further down your lines you won’t be able to see this to then figure out if it just needs to be unblocked or if something is broken like a cracked pipe that needs to be repaired. If you have old clay pipes they may have cracked, maybe there is a sinkhole forming that is putting pressure on the PVC piping or maybe a connection has failed.

We can use our CCTV pipe inspection camera to look inside your system to find out what is causing the blockage to help determine if it is just a repair or clearing service you need.

You should get a blocked drain repaired as soon as you start noticing there is a problem. The longer you leave it the more work is required later on to get it repaired and this will cost more in paying for the labour of a plumber to repair it. More importantly it is simply not safe to ignore a blocked drain because you don’t know if it can pose a safety risk to other people.

Any time you have a blocked drain you should demand the plumber show you the CCTV camera pipe inspection video footage. This can show you if the line has been cleared of the blockage and if the plumber has done a great job or not. If any plumber does not offer this, then you have to reconsider using them as they aren’t willing to show you the work completed.

When our blocked drain plumber visits your property we make sure they have the latest drain cleaning and pipe locating equipment that includes our hydrojet high pressure water blast machine to ensure your pipes, blocked toilet or drainage system is working adequately once they have completed with the works correctly

If a drain plumber in Sydney recommends clearing the drain and NOT conducting a CCTV camera inspection, you probably should be using a different plumber. This is a lazy approach and unfortunately seems like its saving you money in the short term, but will cost you more once the drain backs up again if it wasn’t cleared correctly. It is worth the peace of mind to see the work was done to clear the blockage.

You have to be careful what trees are either growing or planted near sewer lines, stormwater drains or general plumbing. These are the worst trees that have roots that love getting inside pipes and blocking them;

  • Willow Tree
  • Umbrella Tree
  • African Tulip
  • Cinnamomum Camphorum
  • Tipuana Tipu
  • Pepperina
  • Camphor Laurel

See this report on what is safe to plant near pipes or drains.

Rootx can clear a blocked drain that has tree roots inside it if it is applied correctly. It needs to be re-applied every 12 months or so depending how aggressive the tree roots in the area are. It will not harm pipes, septic systems or vegetation. Although if you want a chemical-free solution then the best way is to remove the surrounding trees, install new plumbing or have your old system re-lined.

You might begin to wonder if your drain is blocked if you notice any of these things happening;

  • Water draining slowly from a sink when water is running into it or you are trying to empty it after pulling the plug out.
  • You might have weird smells near floor wastes or wafting through a hallway
  • You can hear gurgling noises as the water is draining from a sunk, bath tub or shower.
  • You might flush the toilet and see the water rise up first before it goes down again slowly.
  • You may notice that floors or walls are slightly damp.
  • You can see wet areas in your backyard or patches of grass that are quite muddy or soft when you walk on them.
  • A stormwater drain is constantly full of water and never seems to be empty.
  • During heavy rain or a thunderstorm you can see your strip drains full of water.

It is pretty easy to keep your drains from getting blocked, here are a few tips;

  • Check if any of your pipes or parts of your plumbing system have tree roots growing inside them, make sure they are removed.
  • If you have clay pipes have them inspected for cracks, even small ones, to ensure nothing can get inside the lines.
  • Make sure all drainpipes are cleared regularly so that debris doesn’t make its way into the stormwater sewer system.
  • Cover outdoor strip drains to make sure leaves, animals or other debris can’t get inside.
  • For drains in the shower, bath and vanity sink use very fine covers to stop hair getting into the pipes. Brush long hair and clean the brush by putting any excess hair into the bin rather than down the drain.
  • Do not flush baby wipes down the toilet.
  • Do not flush sanitary products down the toilet.
  • Put a child lock on the bathroom door so that kids don’t throw toilets into the bowl and flush them into the sewer system.
  • Any hot oil that you use for cooking empty this into the garden or in a garbage bin instead of pouring it in the drain.
  • Do not push food scraps down the kitchen sink, put them into compost or the bin.

Be very careful if you are trying to save money when trying to get your blocked drain cleaned. You will find lots of amazing offers that are promoted in Google Ads or even on plumber websites that give you $50 off or Seniors Discounts, maybe even a fixed price. A cheap price for blocked drain repairs will often be too good to be true & many of these gimmicks are just tricks to get you to call. This is how these offers work;

1. The worker sent out is unlicensed and uninsured

Unlicensed and uninsured tradespeople usually charge less than a qualified plumber. Maybe there is a license on the website but check if the actual person attending your site is licensed to do this type of work. In Sydney you should be using a licensed plumber to repair or clear a blocked drain, even if a permit isn’t required for the work.

You might be a ‘do it yourself’ type of person but working with plumbing that connects to Sydney Water’s system can only be done by licensed tradespeople. If you use someone that doesn’t have a license then there is no guarantee for the work, it could be done illegally & your home insurance could even be made void. When hiring a blocked drain plumber in Sydney, ask to see identification, a state license and proof of current insurance. To check licensing and insurance credentials just go to Service NSW’s website.

2. Repair prices for a job sight unseen

How can a plumber realistically estimate a price for a job he or she hasn’t even seen? Don’t accept a fixed price offer that is in an advertising, letterbox flyer or a website. They will either cut corners to get the job done or come up with something else that needs to be repaired to make the value of the visit worthwhile.

A plumber could give a rough estimate, but without seeing your plumbing system they can’t really know how much work is required. That is why all the fixed price offers are an absolute load of rubbish. Minimum is to get their their hourly rate and if they have a minimum charge. They can also give you a ballpark idea of the time involved on certain small, predictable jobs, but blocked drain cleaning could take 10 minutes or 10 hours depending on how bad the blockage is or if the pipes are broken.

3. Estimate prices that get padded

Another trick plumbers will use is to offer a cheap up front price, maybe $149 to get a blocked drain cleared, but they might clear it, but not repair the piping that is broken. The cost to do that will be inflated or padded to make up for the cheap up front cost. Alternatively they will make up or find other supposed problems that need to be repaired.

4. Using bait-and-switch tactics

Bait-and-switch is a deceptive marketing practice where the plumbing company will advertise one product or service and then switches you to something else after you make an enquiry. So maybe they have cleared the blocked drain but then suggest pipe relining without even showing you if the pipes are broken or alternatively they charge extra for a CCTV camera inspection before and after the clearing service.

5. Discounted blocked drain plumbing paid by cash

A plumber may ask you to pay in cash and forgo a receipt, maybe with the offer of a discounted price. It’s a sign they could be cheating on their taxes & the discount may even be made up anyway. It’s your decision, of course, but a worker who is dishonest in one area may well be dishonest in others. Whatever you do, you need a written receipt for the work done in case something goes wrong later and there is another blockage that causes damage to your homes or others.

6. Charging a low rate for the first hour only

Many service providers have a minimum charge for the first hour on the job. Nothing wrong with that, it takes them time and money to get out the door and visit your location. Although be careful in case that rate increases after the first hour so that overall they are no cheaper than any other plumber or they make up other things that need to get repaired on site. It is sometimes better to get a price to do it by job rather than by hour.

Most outside drains can be easily accessed by removing the drain cover to see if there is any visible debris. Using a gloved hand is the safest thing to do so that you can check if there is a  blockage right under that area under the visible water.

If the blockage is a deeper, you would have to use an auger, drain snake or some other tool to try and feel for what is in there, but you might make it worse by pushing debris even further down the pipe.

In case of a very severe obstruction deep inside the pipe, a high water pressure jet would be needed that can be pushed down into the piping system. If this does not solve the problem and tree roots or some other larger debris is causing the blockage, you would need to hire a licensed plumber to do an inspection and work out how to clear the drain.

It is the landlord’s responsibility to ensure that all the plumbing systems on the property are in good condition at all times; this includes the drainage system. Normally it will be the landlord or real estate agent’s responsibility to organise for a plumber to clear a blocked drain if the blockage has occurred due to an ongoing problem.

Although, if it can be determined that the blockage is the tenant’s fault, it would become the tenant’s responsibility. In case of an emergency, the tenant would need to inform the real estate agent about the blockage. They can get the work done by a professional, and then ask the landlord to reimburse them later.

The average cost to hire a plumber in Sydney for unclogging a bathroom vanity sink, laundry or kitchen sink will range between $80 – $120 inc gst although this really depends on the time of day, so emergency calls will cost more, especially at 1am in the morning.

If the work required is more complex, this cost can increase to between $300 – $1000 if that involves CCTV camera inspection, high pressure water jet blasting or even small repairs.

Every situation will actually be different because there is no way a plumber can know what the cause of the blockage is without visiting the location to inspect and assess the situation. A kitchen sink could be blocked at one house that just needs a plunge, but in other house there might be a collapsed pipe which requires the plumbing to be replaced.

There are various ways in which a collapsed sewer line can be fixed and most of the time it requires a licensed plumber. Depending on the plumbing installation a relatively quick solution might be to do a pipe relining which is a sleeve that is inserted into the existing piping, but this won’t suit all collapsed sewer line situations.

The more common method involves excavating the area and replacing the collapsed section of the pipe with a new one & generally this is done when the old pipes are made of clay which have simply broken. The alternative to this is changing the path of the sewer line to go around the problem area, but this won’t suit all sites. A licensed plumber in Sydney will be able to tell you which option would work best for your situation and type of pipe.

If you have a smelly drain it is possible it could be blocked and you can try and get rid of the smell yourself. A natural mixture of baking soda and vinegar can work really well normally for simple blockages. Just run some hot water into the drain, pour in a cup full of baking soda and follow it up with two cups of vinegar. Allow this to fizz for some time and leave it untouched for at least an hour. After that, you can flush your drain with some hot water from the tap. This is one of the simplest and most effective ways of clearing smelly and clogged drains.
However, if this does not work, you would have to call in a licensed plumber to come and inspect the problem.

If you have a noxious odour coming out of the drain in your house, it could be sewer gas escaping from the system. While this smell can be truly unbearable, it also contains bacteria and methane, which can be dangerous to your health. In worse case scenarios it can result in headaches and various other serious ailments and reduce the hygiene levels on your property.

A smelly drain indicates a problem in the drainage system, and you need to get it fixed without delay by using a licensed plumber to attend to the problem.

We might have to dig up your garden to unblock a drain, it just depends where & how bad the blockage is. Most of the time our plumber can put the high pressure water jetter into your piping system and clear the debris really quickly. This means you can use your existing plumbing as it is. Although if we find the pipes have broken or collapsed then we might have to replace those sections by digging into the garden to expose the broken pieces & swap them over.

Most plumbers in Sydney unblock a drain by guessing and praying to the drain gods. Just kidding. Every plumber will have a different approach to unblocking drains but we will inspect the situation first to work out some options before we do anything else.

We will avoid using chemicals if we can and will try with a plunger or our high pressure water jet blasting equipment first.

A blocked toilet in Sydney can cause a variety of problems in a home, including unpleasant odours, slow drainage, and overflowing water or even raw sewage onto the floor. Additionally, a blocked toilet can create health hazards, as it can lead to the growth of harmful bacteria and mould that you may not see but it is present in the room.

To fix a blocked toilet, there are a few things you can try at home before calling a plumber;

  • One method is to use a plunger to try and dislodge the blockage, be careful how you manage the air pressure changes so that wee or poo doesn’t splash up at you in your face or mouth.

  • Next would be to try using a toilet auger, which is a tool designed specifically for clearing blocked toilets.
  • Another home-made solution is to mix baking soda and vinegar together, pour it down the toilet and wait for 30 minutes before flushing it or pouring boiling hot water down the toilet.

If these methods do not work, you could try different chemicals but these are not good for the plumbing, don’t work sometimes & are full of chemicals that are not good for the environment, so it may be necessary to call a plumber. A plumber will be able to use specialised tools and equipment, like our high pressure water jet blasting machine, to clear the blockage and ensure that your toilet is functioning properly. We can also check for any underlying issues that may be contributing to the blockage, such as a damaged sewer line., collapsed pipe or even a toy or other object that is stuck in the pipe.

In order to prevent future blockages, it is important to be mindful of what is flushed down the toilet. Avoid flushing non-biodegradable materials such as wet wipes, sanitary products, and paper towels (even if they say they are). Another way to prevent blockages is to schedule regular maintenance with a plumber to have your drains and pipes cleaned.

A blocked toilet can cause a variety of problems for home owners in Sydney, therefore it’s important to be mindful of what is flushed down the toilet and schedule regular maintenance to have your drains and pipes cleaned. There are various home-made solutions and plumbing services that can be used to fix the problem.

If you call a local plumber to clear your blocked sewer line they will most likely attempt these steps to repair the problem for you.
  1. Use a plunger: A plunger is the most common tool used by plumbers to clear blockages in toilets. This method is relatively inexpensive and can be done quickly to fix the blockage if it isn’t too major. This means you don’t have to buy one or worry about getting raw sewage splashed on your face or body.

  2. Using a toilet auger: A toilet auger is a specialised tool that can be used to clear blockages that a plunger cannot. This method is also relatively inexpensive to get a plumber to do and it can clear more stubborn blockages.

  3. Hydro jetting: This method involves using high-pressure water to clear blockages in the sewer line. Hydro jetting is a more powerful method than a plunger or auger and can clear blockages that are deeper in the sewer line, the water at really high pressure ‘cuts’ anything that is stuck on the lining of the pipes while breaking it into smaller pieces.

  4. Camera inspection: A camera inspection involves using a small camera to view the inside of the sewer line. This allows the plumber to see exactly where the blockage is, what it is and then work out how best to remove it. This would normally be done after the first three methods have failed.

  5. Snaking: A plumber can use a long, flexible cable called a snake to remove blockages in the sewer line. This method is more effective for blockages that are much deeper in the line as it can be pushed quite far into any system.

  6. Trench-less sewer repair: Trench-less sewer repairs normally involve using a small hole to access the sewer line and repair or replace the section of damaged pipe. This method is more expensive than the other methods listed above but might be needed if a line has collapsed or is broken.

  7. Sewer line replacement: In some cases, the entire sewer line may need to be replaced. This is the most expensive option, but it is necessary if the line is severely damaged or has collapsed completely. You have no choice but to replace it.

  8. Rooter service: A rooter service involves using a specialised tool to remove tree roots that have grown into the sewer line. This can be an effective way to clear blockages caused by tree roots, although sometimes the water hydro jetting can achieve the same outcome.

  9. Sewer line relining: Sewer line relining is a trench-less method of repairing a damaged sewer line. This method is less invasive than traditional sewer line replacement and is more cost-effective as it uses the existing lines that are in place rather than replacing everything.
